our sustainability and social impact

JHA Consulting focuses on providing strategic, leadership and design services that lead to organisational survivability, regenerative practices, social equity and environmental sustainability.

We contribute to ecosystems protection, biodiversity regeneration and the reduction of carbon emissions through our own actions and through our services to other organisations.

our stance

1

We are individually and collectively courageous and ethical, aiming always to lead and influence by example, and to have a positive impact on the world by converging nature-inspired principles with our strategic, design, leadership and change management capability.

2

Our people work not only to afford to live, but also to have a positive impact on humanity and the planet, now and in the future. We believe in the real potential of post-growth living: that fairness and equity and protected environments and ecosystems and good standards of living and aspiration and hope are possible.

3

We work with partners and suppliers that share our environmental and social equity objectives and values, or who want our help in their transition.

Toitū net carbonzero certified

JHA Consulting has attained the Toitū net carbonzero certification, marking a significant milestone in our sustainability journey. Through diligent effort and careful operational and work delivery design, we've not only met but exceeded the mandatory emissions standards set by Toitū, ensuring our operations are carbon-neutral. This certification underscores our dedication to environmental stewardship, demonstrating our proactive approach towards combating climate change and setting an example for businesses striving for sustainability.

achieving CarbonZero

In 2023 we achieved net zero carbon emissions.

Managing GHG emissions and reporting on them is a critical component of our ethos and sustainability objectives. It enables us to create a culture of transparency within and outside the company and demonstrate our commitment to present and future actions. We have chosen to define our emission reduction targets using the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

As of October 2023, and through the information gathered to achieve NZ Toitū CarbonZero certification, our company greenhouse gas emissions are below the industry average for the 2022-23 reporting year. We estimate JHA Consulting emissions are below 80% of the total CO2 emissions (tCO2e) per person per year when compared to the industry’s average.

Although we conduct our business remotely by design, there can be instances where certain services have been provided on-site. For each programme of work, we balance our people’s wellbeing, client and project requirements, and the opportunity to deliver positive social and environmental impact, with our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.

We are always scanning for technology that will help us to minimise our indirect emissions. Our main area of concern is air travel, which is directly associated with the nature of our national and international business. New Zealand's remoteness limits our ability to minimise carbon-cost when we are required to work onsite with our clients.

With a strong emphasis on maintaining remote working arrangements, low emission supplier selection, and long-term sustainability, we are setting ourselves targets that maintain and/or improve our current low levels of emissions.

JHA Consulting supports progress towards the UN Sustainable development Goals, through an alliance with B1G1.

We donate money for environmental and social impact action, each time someone visits our website and when we sign small, medium or large contracts with clients.

what drives us

Our Executive Director Jules Harrison-Annear is the driving force of our commitment to leading conversations that shift organisational and economic paradigms to those that integrate the social impact of organisational actions and the protection and enhancement of our environment.

We leverage models and ecosystems from the natural world to enable our clients to visualise different ways of working, to rethink how to solve strategic problems, and to take opportunities for greater sustainability and more public value.

We believe that entire business models can be constructed on ethical and sustainable practices, and that these practices contribute to environmental sustainability, biophilic design, biodiversity regeneration, and social impact. We embrace the concepts of One Earth and Seven generations in our personal decisions and professional practice where possible.

We are licensed to use the environmentally and socially conscious post-growth business model developed by JERICA (the “JERICA model”) as our frame for rethinking the design of organisations and the provision of services. This model integrates new ways of doing business with workforce and community enrichment and environmental regeneration. It highlights the opportunities of reinventing what ‘business success’ looks and feels like.

social impact

JHA Consulting and its sister companies Humans at Work and JERICA NZ are committed to influencing and helping design social and post-growth economic paradigms that achieve social equity globally.

As a suite of companies, we promote inclusive practices and ‘walk-the-talk’ in how we have designed our own organisational designs, our culture and our collaborative partnerships with other like-minded organisations.

Humans At Work

is a social impact platform, utilising its podcasts, blogs, Human Hub online community and learning programmes to highlight enrichment through diversity of innovation, leadership, perspective, and impact.

Humans At Work has designed a free online self-paced course providing professional development in the areas of Ethical Leadership and Sustainable Work Practices – this course offers participants the opportunity to understand more about the context and trade-offs required, hone their leadership and decision-making practice, and develop a take-away action plan to implement their new ways of work and become part of a force for good.

jerica NZ

JERICA NZ has designed an integrated social, workforce and environmental business model that showcases the alternative to current economic, exclusive and growth-focused models impact.

JERICA NZ works with governments, international funding organisations, innovative businesses, local communities and action groups to implement this model in various industries around the work.

JERICA NZ licences this model, with support and advice from JHA Consulting, to ethically-aligned organisations globally who want to be part of a coalition transforming and transitioning to new ways of working without sacrificing human or planetary security.
